Canucks vs. San Jose Sharks Game 4 betting odds & handicapping preview

For the NHL Gamblers!

The Vancouver Canucks postseason struggles continued Sunday night – a 5-2 loss in San Jose put them into an almost insurmountable 3-0 hole with another game at the Shark Tank staring them right in the face.

A ton of attention has been paid to Vancouver’s soap-opera goaltending situation but lack of discipline, a lack of scoring and a lack of any sort of secondary scoring threat has Vancouver staring at elimination once again. The Sharks have now beaten the Canucks six straight times in 2013 and now get a chance to close out the series in a building that they have only lost twice in regulation all season long.

Headline: One Last Chance

The stats for the Canucks are ugly – they have five goals through three games against San Jose, and now have just 17 goals while going 2-11 in their last 13 playoff games overall. Vancouver found themselves short-handed eight times and paid the price as San Jose scored three power-play goals – the Sharks were penalized just twice in Game 3. The Canucks gave up five goals Sunday – two more than they’ve scored in the entire series and their #1 goaltender looked suspect in his first game back from injury.

The goal scoring issues are well documented and although Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin each recorded an assist in the last game, they have been all but non-existent so far this series. Mason Raymond, Chris Higgins and Jannik Hansen are pointless thus far in the three games and Derek Roy, despite getting some shot isn`t producing at the rate most expected when he was acquired at the deadline.

Nothing is going right for Vancouver offensively and there isn’t a whole lot of reason for optimism either.

Coach Alain Vigneault hasn`t named his starting goaltender for Tuesday night but the reality is neither has much of a chance unless the offense gets going. Cory Schneider looked OK in the first two periods in Game 3 but came apart in the third period while Roberto Luongo looked great in mop up duty to maintain his solid postseason campaign thus far.

The San Jose Sharks are clicking. Logan Couture has been terrific – had two goals, four points, and a couple of key blocked shots in Game 3 with 15 of 18 faceoffs won. He now has three goals and six points in the series, Patrick Marleau has three goals and Joe Pavelski has two goals and four assists so far to pace the Sharks.

But is seems that everyone is contributing – the Sharks are rolling four lines effectively and are looking as sharp as any team in the playoffs right now.

Could it be that Antti Niemi is in the Canucks’ heads? He has six straight wins against Vancouver and he was money for the Blackhawks against Vancouver a few seasons ago.

He is 3-0-0 in the series with a 1.62 GAA and .945 save percentage.

Dave’s Free Won’t Cost You Anything Betting Prediction

A few trends to consider:

• Under is 15-6-3 in VAN last 24 overall.
• Under is 5-2-3 in VAN last 10 vs. Pacific.
• SJ are 17-4 in their last 21 vs. Northwest.
• Under is 4-1-3 in SJ last 8 Tue. games.
• SJ are 15-6 in their last 21 overall.
• Under is 6-2-3 in the last 11 meetings.

Absolutely nothing is going right for the Vancouver Canucks – they looked done on Sunday night. The Sharks still have only two losses in regulation on home ice all year and they have beaten Vancouver six straight times overall. Vancouver’s bandwagon is virtually empty and my faith in them is all but gone.

It is going to be an active offseason in Canucks-land and unfortunately that offseason starts Tuesday night.

Pick: San Jose Sharks -161
